Background

SAG Healthcentres is a community-based healthcare organization providing high-quality, continuous general practice and multidisciplinary care to more than 90,000 residents across Amsterdam. With 400+ professionals — including GPs, midwives, physiotherapists, psychologists, and social workers — SAG delivers integrated, patient-centred care across 18 locations.

As the organization expanded, so did the need for consistent, secure access to information and tools. Staff were spread across multiple sites with different systems and limited IT support — making it difficult to share updates, policies, and resources efficiently. SAG needed a modern, unified solution that would empower their teams and ease the load on their lean IT department.

Challenge

SAG’s existing IT environment was holding them back:

  • Staff across 18 centres lacked a central, mobile-friendly place to access tools, handbooks, and internal news.
  • Outdated Citrix systems and fragmented infrastructure made collaboration and communication cumbersome.
  • Limited internal development capability restricted SAG’s ability to innovate or respond quickly to staff needs.
  • IT operations were heavily manual, consuming valuable time and resources.

To enable better care delivery, SAG needed a scalable, secure, and user-friendly platform — designed for the realities of modern, multidisciplinary healthcare.

Solution

Uptic’s Product & Platform Teams partnered with SAG to design, build, and manage SAGBook — a custom cloud-based intranet that connects over 400 healthcare professionals across all 18 locations.

Built using React on the front end and .NET on the backend, with SQL Server for data storage and deployed on Microsoft Azure, SAGBook delivers performance, security, and flexibility at scale. It integrates seamlessly with Azure Active Directory for secure, role-based access from any device or location.

Key features include:

  • Targeted communication — news and updates segmented by role and location.
  • Centralized resources — quick access to policies, tools, and internal documentation.
  • Digital staff handbook — tailored for both clinical and administrative audiences.
  • Unified search and staff directory — powered by Azure AD integration.
  • Self-service tools — reducing IT dependency and administrative overhead.

While the Product & Platform Teams led application design and engineering, Uptic’s Internal IT Services Team modernized SAG’s technical environment — introducing secure connectivity, device lifecycle management, and Microsoft 365 optimization. This created a stable, low-ops foundation that allows SAG’s IT staff to focus on strategy and innovation rather than day-to-day maintenance.
