As AI adoption accelerates, cloud workloads are consuming unprecedented energy and water. Greenpixie partnered with Uptic to build a cloud-native platform that turns complex cloud power consumption data into actionable carbon intelligence—at scale and with zero waste.
The rise of AI and cloud computing has brought sustainability into sharp focus. Data centers alone are projected to consume up to 8% of global electricity by 2030 (TechUK Cloud Sustainability Report).
Greenpixie was founded to help enterprises and service providers measure and reduce the carbon footprint of their digital infrastructure. As sustainability requirements became a standard part of enterprise RFPs, Greenpixie needed a scalable platform capable of processing billions of usage-based data points across multiple clouds—accurately, efficiently, and in real time.
To achieve this, Greenpixie partnered with Uptic to design and build a next-generation GreenOps platform—one that could turn raw data into actionable sustainability intelligence at speed and scale.
Processing sustainability data at hyperscale is a complex engineering problem. Each cloud provider reports differently, with millions of resources producing inconsistent and rapidly changing data.
Greenpixie needed a system that could collect, normalize, and process billions of data points from AWS, Azure, and GCP daily—while remaining responsive, accurate, and cost-efficient. The platform also had to support partner-specific branding, multi-tenant deployments, and global compliance requirements without losing performance.
The challenge wasn’t just scale—it was doing it elegantly, with a lean architecture that minimized compute waste while maximizing insight.
Greenpixie's unique data model
Cloud emissions are too often calculated using spend as an inadequate proxy for sustainability. This approach produces inaccurate and thus ineffective data, which doesn't stand up to even basic reporting requirements and cannot be used for informed data-driven decision making concerning approaches to reducing cloud emissions. The key is to analyze cloud usage at the most granular level available, calculating emissions metrics for every single action in the cloud. This approach makes Greenpixie's cloud emissions methodology the industry's most accurate, precise, and mature platform.
Uptic delivered a Product & Platform Team to build Greenpixie’s new GreenOps platform from the ground up—combining data engineering, UX design, and full-stack development into one outcome-driven delivery model.
Uptic’s fractional team model allowed engineers, data specialists, and QA testers to roll on and off as needed—maintaining momentum and keeping the project lean while solving one of the most data-intensive challenges in cloud sustainability.
"Uptic designed an elegant and cost-effect solution using cloud-native technologies that handles massive data volumes using on-demand infrastructure. The level of ingenuity from their technical delivery teams is without parallel."
